Diploma ESFS smanjenaUbiq is a literary journal for science fiction and fantasy published twice a year in Zagreb, Croatia by the science fiction society SFera. Founded in 2007 by Tatjana Jambrišak, Darko Macan, Aleksandar Žiljak and Tomislav Šakić, Ubiq has been awarded European Science Fiction Award (ESFS Award) by European Science Fiction Society in 2011 for best European science fiction magazine (tied-in with Russian online magazine fantlab.ru).

Ubiq publishes both fiction and theory/essays. Short stories and novellas are accepted in Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian and Montenegrin languages only (no translations), while essays and articles can be submitted in all world languages. The articles will be translated into Croatian, except from Serbian, Bosnian and Montenegrin languages, which will be printed in their original idioms.

Ubiq_12_Korica_WEBUbiq is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Croatia and the City Council for Culture of City of Zagreb.

Journal’s title comes from the Latin word ubique – which literally means “everywhere around” – and has been inspired by Philip K. Dick’s classic novel Ubik. “Ubik” for Dick is a means which make the simulacrum around us more real, tactile, and it comes in various shapes, from spray cans to food and drink. It is appropriate to name the journal for science fiction – the genre which critically looks upon ourselves – after that (in Dick’s novel) all-present but unreachable means.

Preživjeti PotopUbiq also started its series of books – Biblioteka Ubiq – which published book of four novellas by Aleksandar Žiljak, Darko Macan’s first science fiction novel (previously only serialised), and books on fantasy theory by leading scholars Zoran Kravar and Darko Suvin.
